OLD KILMORE TOWN HALL
16 Sydney Street, Kilmore, Victoria, 3764

"The water is wide,
I cannot cross over
And neither have I wings to fly
Bring me a boat that can carry two
And I will sail, my love, to you*

"The Celtic Book of The Dead would have been of spiritual importance to early settlers of Kilmore, Victoria’s oldest inland town …

"It was founded in 1837 by Celtic farmers from Ireland, Scotland and Cornwall …

"The ancient Celts believed that, after death, the soul journeyed from island to island seeking answers …

"But what happens when a soul refuses to take that journey ..? Perhaps that explains why so many souls are left behind …"

Local resident Peter Siebel has met one soul that apparently has been left behind - at his cafe in Kilmore's former town hall.

"It is said that, when you’re 40, half of you belongs to the past … and when you’re 70, nearly all of you …

"Old Kilmore Town Hall has one 70-year-old who definitely belongs to the past …

"Her name is Penny and she’s a ghost who haunts the stairs here …"

Peter explains how he saw Penny while renovating the building in 2003.

Since 1894, this building was the seat of Kilmore council, where proposals shaping the town were tabled …

In 2003, it was converted to a café restaurant when Penny, as she was called, appeared as an elderly lady, in a white ruffled dress dating back to Victorian times …

Is “Penny” a former councillor who worked here ..? Or a citizen who attended the Town Hall’s numerous formal gatherings ..?

How else can we explain why this ghost from the past ... appears today ..?

In Part 2, the Haunted Australia investigators discover there is more than meets the eye in the state's oldest inland town.
