A CONGESTION tax on drivers in Melbourne's CBD would make the city a ghost town, says a small business owner.
Drew Sinton, who runs The Haunted Bookshop in the city, said it would be another stake in the heart for business owners.
"A congestion tax would just put people off coming into town even more.
The CBD would be history," he said. Mr Sinton said that the current economic climate was "quite dire" for small businesses, and taxes only added to the problem.
"Taxes are so complicated. It all adds up - levies, import taxes, stamp duty.
I call them little nuisance taxes," he said. Employing staff is out of the question for Mr Sinton because of the additional tax burdens.
